We made it!!

This is the first of the official `Littlewood Blog' for summer
vacation 2010. We shall be visiting England with a short sidetrip to
Paris.
The flight was to leave at midnight on the 16th so of course we
decided we had to have a special dinner before we left. Dan and Linda
happily obliged, putting on a fabulous spread, as usual. Jo and Eddie
joined us too.

We left for the airport shortly after 8, checked in, did the security
thing and headed to the Air Transat Lounge where we had a quite spot
to sit, some bevvies and some food. We also charged some electronic
devices, inlcuding the new iPad.
The kids were very excited to board, Emma saying it was her first
flight and Ethan saying it would be the first one he'd remember. The
flight left right on time at 11:55pm. We were airbourne. The kids
settled in quite quickly. Mark and I had our own way of settling in.

While we had no mention of our flight route, we were pretty sure we
saw Ottawa below.

We quickly flew into daylight and had an amazing
view of London as we started our descent. Customs was a breeze, the
line moved quickly and the guard was quite pleasant, unlike many of
the American border guards I have encountered. Crisitian
unfortunately, went to the wrong terminal so it took a couple of phone
calls before we had it all sorted. The real adventure began once we
got on the Motorway to head to Great Chart. There was an accident
that had closed the road and we sat for quite a while until we could
even get off and search for an alternate. The alternate was rather
windy with VERY narrow roads which necessitated a bit of a break for
the usually nauseous me. I had kind of hoped that because I was
sitting where the driver seat is in North America that it might help
to keep away the carsickness but not quite. It did give us a chance
to run into a bathroom in an incredibly old pub and buy a few chips
and some drinks. I think part of the problem may have been that my
clock was all out of whack, we hadn't slept for about 24 hours and
hadn't eaten since the lovely plane supper at about 1am. It had been
accompanied though by a nice red wine whose cup was also its cap.

I had passed on breakfast,
being totally confused by then. Back to the road trip, a trip that
should have taken about an hour actually took 4 and a half but it gave
all of us a really good chance to chat and enjoy the sites. We
arrived at Cristian and Sara and Joshua's and boy did that feel good.
We relaxed, had supper and drank lots of wine and port. Kids headed
to bed around 10 but Mark and I stayed up till after one. I have no
idea how many straight hours we were awake and my brain is too mushy
to try and calculate it but I know it was a long time. Slept in till
10 am and feel totally adjusted to England time. Ready for the next
adventure!!!
